Doherty electric
Doherty Electric was founded in 1971 in Nampa, Idaho. Over the years, Tom Doherty grew the business into a well-respected electrical company serving the Treasure Valley. When Tom retired, Mike Basye—who had been Tom’s lead electrician for more than 30 years—took over and purchased the company in 2008. He later relocated the office to Boise, Idaho to better serve the area.
In 2025, Mike retired, and his office manager, Deborah Morton, purchased the company to ensure it remained locally owned and independent, rather than being sold to a corporate conglomerate.

Deb Morton
OWNER
Owner Deborah Morton has been in the construction industry for over 30 years. After serving her country in the Army for 8 years, not only serving during Desert Storm, but she also had tours in Okinawa, Korea and Raven Rock (Little Pentagon). She made her way back home and landed in construction. She has learned a lot from restorations, roofing and fell in love with the Electrical side of construction.
She took on the Office Manager job and ran with it, learned as much as she could and when it came time for Mike to retire, she bought the company and hasn't looked back. She brings the same strength and determination to the electrical industry - leading, innovating, and raising the bar every day.

I started at Doherty Electric in 1995 as an apprentice. Attended BSU for 4 years and completed the apprenticeship program and passed the State exam for the journeyman’s license. I have been through training classes for multiple fire alarms, door access, security and camera systems. I have managed all sizes of projects and crew sizes. I worked my way up to estimator then to Vice President.
Away from work I like spending time with family and friends. I would rather be in the mountains either camping or hitting the trails in our UTV.
Jake Bryant
Lead Journeyman
Jacob Bryant is a seasoned electrician with 22 years of experience, raised in Boise, Idaho, where he developed an early passion for understanding how things work. Known for his technical expertise and creative problem-solving, he has built everything from custom computers to off-grid renewable energy systems. A true jack of all trades, Jacob also enjoys woodworking and building hot rods, bringing precision and craftsmanship to every project. Outside of work, he spends his time riding motorcycles, practicing archery and shooting, camping, and hiking. Above all, he values quality time with his wife and dog, balancing hard work, adventure, and family life.
Tate Borstelman
SERVICE SUPERVISOR
Tate Borstelman is a Journeyman Electrician with over 25 years of experience and a lifelong Idaho resident. A graduate of Capital High School and Boise State University, where he finished #1 in his class, he brings dedication and discipline to his craft. Earlier in his career, he developed strong leadership and service skills working in hospitality at a five-star California resort and the Red Lion Hotel. Outside of work, Tate enjoys gaming, auctions, and studying psychology. Above all, he values time with his three grandsons and approaches life with curiosity and heart.
Shane Touchette
Service Manager
Shane is a skilled Service Electrician with extensive training in Eastern Oregon and Santa Rosa, California, and is a graduate of Pendleton High School. A former college baseball scholarship athlete, he brings strong discipline and work ethic to his trade. Specializing in advanced troubleshooting and complex installations, he also holds three mechanical engineering patents, highlighting his technical creativity. Outside of work, Shane enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, gardening, and spending time outdoors.
